Stonewall Jackson was born January 20, 1824 in Clarksburg, Virginia. His mother died of typhoid fever when he was just six years old; his father later died from tuberculosis. He grew up among family slaves and served as a constable at the age of 17. Stonewall went on to become one of America's most famous generals during the Civil War.
