How Important Is It for Religious Communities to Recognize That Faith Is a Live Issue?
I think one of the things we really need to emphasize is how important it is for religious communities to recognize that doubt is a live issue for many people. I remember reading some statistics in an attitudes survey which said that if you have two parents who are a Christian in this country, then you're only 47% likely to be Christian into adulthood. And so I think that it's very helpful because it opened my eyes to other ways of seeing the world. It eventually brought me to Christianity where I found actually a very exciting way of holding together faith and doubt.
