Kant's Critical Criticism of the New Hypothetico Deductive Method
Kant read David hume's criticisms of the idea of necessary connection, or causality. He thought they were a major threat to science and its deductive method. Kant also worried that the scientific method is potentially a going trespass into realms of the human soul,. Why isn't the human being explainable in such terms as well? So he's both trying to defend science, and at the same time protect this notion of freedom.
