The Importance of the Spirit in Translation and Writing

The way Freud was translated into English changed how he came across in other ways. In German he used ich uberich and iz, which were the common words for i over i or above i and it. But when it translated into English it became ego, super ego and id,. Latin terms were used. So this is why translation and how we express things are so important. And one of the things I strive to do with both in translation and writing is to have that sense of spirit, aliveness in it. Sometimes I read a passage of writtenness and that's just dead and I go back and rework it until it has some life in it.
