Openings for the Amateur Player
The purpose of the opening is to get a playable middle game. You always want to play to win regardless of which color you have. The idea that white has an advantage at the amateur level is completely overblown. Some players are uncomfortable with the black pieces, or they don't study enough with the black piece. But the truth is they need to learn their openings as black better.
