The Future of R-Ram
In 2004, researchers at Samsung announced that they had successfully integrated R-RAM memory built on top of a traditional computing chip. Around 2015, computer scientists began to recognize the enormous potential of these energy-efficient devices for large AI algorithms. The vast majority of computations take place within a neural network's artificial neurons - which are simple matrix multiplication tasks. In the new R-Ram chip, silicon neurons are built into the hardware and the R- RAM memory cells store the weights in them.
