The Roman Empire and the Volcians
Vie may have been in competition with rome, but at least it was a settled city of civilized farmers out in the eastern hills. However, nomadic tribes, ly the volcians and the aquians, pressed at Rome's borders. The peak of the volcian threat came early in four 91 b c when a disgruntled roman general named corlionus defected and led an army through the legions right to the gates of the city. It has been noted that the story of corilionus bears striking resemblance to the story of the great athenian general themistocles.
