The Second Half of Life
We all have to go through stage one. You cannot skip a stage of development just because you look back at a stage and feel like it's an underdeveloped stage. No kid, no child, no adult can ever skip through a stage. The problem is is if you stay there, that's where it becomes a real sticking point. And I think the thing that is the most profound about the way he taught me and changed my life are his teachings on suffering. We have to suffer enough in whatever unique way life brings to us before our thinking that we have it figured out crumbles.
