Even social conservatives who object to the introduction of same sex couples to civil marriage recognize that at bottom. The prospect of marriage is at its core a conservative kind of enterprise. And one aspect of the conservatism I think is really important for why opposition to to marriage rights subsides. It doesn't cost the majority anything here to a seat to the rights of the minority.
