The Ishtar gate was excavated in 575 BC at the Old City of Babylon. The German archaeologist Robert Kaldwey had excavated a great gate of brilliantly glazed blue brick, 50 feet high. Iraq has repeatedly argued that it belongs to them and should be returned by Germany.
