David Frum: It seems so strange to me for an American to say, you know what? I don't want to choose my leaders. What drives that do you think? He says it's a human trait to run for the sense of security and safety authoritarian leaders claim they can offer. Frum: Every society has a certain percentage of these authoritarian personalities. They're very prone to conspiracism; have high tolerance for bigotry if they don't actually participate in it themselves.
