Movie Review - The Big Heat
The Big Heat is one of Lang's most perfectly achieved American works. Like M, it's a film about degradation and the gutter but where things look clean. But as an M, everything in this film is connected to something else - perhaps in a less-sympathetic manner than an M. The more heavily symbolic language of his German and early films in America is muted. What we have instead is a very remarkable, I think, tight causality.
