The Relationship Between Balance Literacy and Whole Language
balance literacy grew out of the work of Ken Goodman and Frank Smith in the US. It tapped into this whole progressive education movement where teacher was taking a step back from holding space in classroom. In general, if you go into any run-of-the-mill mainstream or private sort of school in Australia, you're going to see balance literacy activities and structures as well.
