I'm definitely biased towards research but it definitely sounds like an interesting but there are a lot of challenges obviously. Especially in the new term generative AI field which is extremely complex and challenging problems. I think the best way to assess if a problem is too hard is to see that no one does it. Care enough is going to put the brains and the effort into building it. If you don't see any hints pointing in this direction, it's not a good indication.
