E russell's theory of descriptions is often seen as one of the most important works in an inflosive language. He wanted to establish that all the things that we know by description can timately be traced back to some things that we knows by acquaintance. The meaning of a name is object it stands for, and definite descriptions are sort of analyzed away into a more complicated form. And i think subsequent to em to russell, people start to question whether e russell offers an adequate account of that.
