Simon's Success Is Down to MasterChef

Simon Cowell won MasterChef in 2007. Eight years on he still owns two restaurants and is a fan of TV cooking shows. Tasha Oren, associate professor of film and media studies at Tufts University tells us how the show became such a big hit. The very first cooking show was actually a commercial for a flower brand that invented a character called Betty Crocker. During the war effort it really became a way to help women provide for their families during a time of rationing and limitations.
