The Athenians of the Peloponnesian War
Athenian generals sent men who were friends and relatives of the rest at eleusus into their city to persuade them to come to agreement. Both parties swore oaths not to remember past wrong doings and to live as fellow citizens once again. Oligarchical resistance to athenian democracy was now thoroughly squashed. In 400 b c, a decree was finally passed that honored those who assisted in the restoration of the democracy by giving full athenian citizenship to those who joined the march from phili to pyreus and isotelii.
