When i was growing up, i didn't know the serious history of dopple gangers. Playing your double was a right of passage for actors in sit coms or soap operas. The first creator of pop culture to take this idea seriously was jean rodenbury from startreckwl. Elaine toben says this star wars versus star treck approach to dealing with your dark side actually plays into a larger debate that we're having in our culture now. That kind of thinking inspired the t v sho fringe where fbi agents met their doubles in a parallel universe and discovered how different they'd be if history were different.
