In terms of brain sciences, I think we are still Very far from understanding how the thing works. In fact, I even believe that we may never be able to understand in detail how the brain works. We may understand the general principles well enough to reproduce it well enough to simulate it. But maybe we'll never understand all the brain works  in the same way that we don't really understand all the details on our computer work. You only understand the general architecture and and the code that was put in there So now I've got a new book out called The Brain: A Neuroscientist's Guide to Exploring How Our Minds Work.
