Stoic doctrine that virtue is the only good can be rephrased as an excellent character is the only moral good. In Stoicism, knowledge entails a system of integrated ascents and necessarily implies habituation. This knowledge is more than intellectual understanding; it is a character trait. The discipline of action involves asking them of ourselves continually. We must ask ourselves direct questions each time we engage with people and events in the world.
