The Importance of Initiating Actions
In ordinary life people are subject to the slavery of feelings. The pupil however must be in control. They must not allow themselves to be controlled, but must in turn control pleasure and grief. In this way we overcome pleasure and grief - that which is egotistical pleasure and egotistical pain. We must find a way to crawl into other beings, as it were, in order to feel with them. No one should let themselves be kept from this exercise for fear of becoming dulled. A fourth exercise is the one I prefer to characterize, by telling a legend. This legend is from the life of Jesus Christ. It is not found in the Bible as many others are not.
