In Japan, teachers are expected to socialize with coworkers and be a part of these things. You do not move, you do not speak, you cannot check your phone. If a student knocks like their pencil off the table of their desk, they can't even pick it up. So those are like weeks of your life where you're sitting. And there's nothing worse than being left alone with your thoughts on like a beautiful day.
