The One Practice That Begun With Mrs Gandhi, Every Government Has Used It on Steroids

Gandhi created an unlawful activities prevention act which allows the police to detain you by giving you some sort of general cause. And so you languish in jail for long, long periods of time without even a clear charge being framed against you. So one is that if there are protests, they are put down with a very heavy hand. The other most recently since about the mid 80s is that young frustrated youth had become foot soldiers of what in India they call Hindutva or Hindu nationalism. Those energies which might have otherwise gone into social protest had either been put down or been channeled into these other areas which do not add up to a productive use of their Time and labor.
