The Importance of Organizing School Schedules Around Teaching and Learning

As a parent and as a reporter, I noticed how many things get in the way of teaching and learning bus schedules are more important than pretty much anything else. Athletic schedules are permitted to interrupt instruction. Kids are pulled out from instruction for speech therapy or other interventions. In my state, the former governor decreed that no school could start before Labor Day so that resorts would be able to keep high school kids working through the holiday weekend. It takes enormous effort and leadership to organize school schedules around teaching and learning.
