In the late forties, groups of librarians and teachers were accusing comics of being inappropriate. They didn't want their kids reading them because they considered it to be immoral. A psychologist who argued that children imitated the actions of comic book characters helped shift the tide in this case. The publishers adopted their own code in 19 forty eight which lasted like a year before failing completely. And ironically, what was then, marvel comics, timely comics, just said, you know what, we're nto just use our own inhouseapetatnwe to pay into this thing.
