Beneath the Obelisks

Ancient Egyptians weren't some mercantile secular society. They had strong convictions about the afterlife and made offerings to their ancestors. Their relationship to their king was not merely one of thoughtless idolization. The vast bulk of what we've inherited from ancient Egypt is a sort of stream of consciousness fantasy world, masterfully carved in stone and gold.
