In 19 76 is the first time that the republican party puts at least a tentative anti bortion plank on their platform. Medicate stops paying for abortions, and states begin to pass laws that acquire things like seeing a councillor before getting an abortion. But it's not enough. To gain power, the anti abortion movement seeks out other religious people who share the same beliefs around abortion. White evangelicals really join up with white catholics. And this would be incredibly powerful that you have a growing number of abortion voters.
