David Perry: Many students have started their PhD journeys with a false idea of what it's going to require to graduate. He says Chinese universities are under pressure to publish more and more in international journals, which is an effective way for them to squeeze out more publications. But he adds that they're also being deceptive by putting themselves up to the same standard as European and American universities already operating.
