Kai McGilvery's Family Speaks About His Early Life
After Kai's arrest, his family came forward to speak about his early life. His parents separated when he was four years old and both remarried. Gil McGilvery lost custody of Kai and his brother because his car broke down on the way to a custody hearing. The residential school system was a network of boarding schools for indigenous people in Canada that was meant to isolate children from their culture and religion.
