Philosophy is not really about winning arguments, it's about reflecting critically on assumptions. Political persuasion at its best works by reflecting critically on the assumptions that underlie our political views. The changing of the public mind within a relatively short period of time on the question of same-sex marriage may be the most recent example I can think of.
