The Cost of Project Slowdown
Project slowed down. Project slowdown has been going for a decade now. The next Antarctic season we were back. We were going to try something new. Instead of pumping water out of the sea, we were going to pump it from underneath the glaciers. It's pretty audacious. You suck enough water from the underside of a glacier for the whole ice block to lose its water cushion and sink back down onto bedrock. So there we were. Melting and casing twenty boreholes into pine island glacier. After that, we pumped up all the water we could. It can be done. Solves all problems. All right, doesn't solve all problems. But let's not get picky.
