How Does a Bar Magnet Work?
Inside a bar magnet has a bunch of iron atoms which are all lined up in a certain way. It's the feature of magnetism that magnetism, magetism, always has closed loop field lines. The earth's magnetic field is more or less like what you would get from a giant bar magnet. When your do them with an electric charge, it works very differently.
