i'm always very fascinated by the way your story begins with institutions like political parties, or the networks run by the coke brothers. How do those emphasies differ in terms of what kinds of things you end up thinking are important? Well, let me give you the example a few years back. The tea party broke out early in obama's presidency, in two thousand nine, two thousand ten. And how did different people go about thinking about it? well, historians started looking at the rhetoric that people who called themselves tea partiers were engaging in and then checked to see whether they really were saying the same things as the founding fathers. I find that interesting, but my take is different
