"I became less dogmatic about truth and more interested in what people need emotionally to survive," she says. "When you're making a documentary, when someone finishes answering the question don't jump in with your next question because it's entirely possible they'll want to fill that space." She adds: "In that space what they might give you is far more potent and unintentional than what their constructed answer might be"
