How to Calculate the Age of the Earth With the Smallest of Particles

Patterson and a colleague named george tilton went around crushing rocks to perfect their methods. In doing so, they figured out the age of our planet for the first time in human history. The next big question he would try to answer with the smallest of particles was how the earth's crust had formed. His methods had him traversing the earth's oceans, pulling up sediment samples from their floors. But as he tested the sediment, he found something surprising. He knew plenty about old rocks but could pretty much tell you what he was going to find in them.
