The Importance of Journalism and Whistleblowers in Exposing Evil
The temptation is just too strong for board members and others in leadership to look the other way when wrongdoing and irregularities occur. In every case that I've mentioned, neither the government nor the Evangelical Council for financial accountability brought the stories into the open. Instead, Christian journalists played a key role in each of these stories. Journalism ended up being vital, essential, in part because one of the pathologies of the Evangelical Church today is exactly what I just said. It has grown incapable of policing itself with anything resembling biblical structures of church polity.
