The Effects of Stress on Immune Function

Short-term stress before surgery can increase the rate of recovery since part of the fight or flight response boosts the number of useful repair cells that flood to the surgery site. But crucially yet again it only works if your body isn't already chronically stressed. Richard Davidson is founder and director of the Center for Healthy Minds at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He says adopting practices which reduce reactivity to stress can also impact immune function and inflammatory processes, which play a very important role in health and illness.
