The Hendrix is maybe the most famous example of people doing that on a mass scale, purple haze. So many people think that he's talking about kissing a guy in that song because at least that would mean something. It would be a better song lyric if it was kiss this guy instead of kiss the sky kissing this guy doesn't mean anything at all. If your whole career is being a inferior version of Jimmy Hendrix, probably don't cover one of his songs and make sure everyone who didn't realize that is bound to realize it now.
