Drinking Too Much Water Can Decrease Performance
Athletes have developed a monomaniacal focus on drinking as much water as possible. This hand ringing over hydration is not only unnecessary, it can decrease performance. mild dehydration does not impair performance in runners and cyclists. The fastest athletes also tend to be the most dehydrated at the end of races. You don't need electrolite supplements or beverages to hydrate. Just plain old water is fine. And doing so could actually impair your performance and endanger your health if you take it to extremes.
