The Prisoner's Story
The desert heat, often well over a hundred degrees fahrenheit, is insufferable. Disease and melnutrition are rife. Appeals for basic food and sanitation are repeatedly thwarted. On june 20 eighth, 19 96, prisoners from cell block four take an extreme measure. They seize a guard who is bringing their meagre food rations. Armed with their hostage, hundreds of prisoners join in the protest. Guards open fire. Some people are killed. There's a stand off. Gadafi's brother in law, the fearsome abdulla sanusi, is brought in to conduct negotiations. His team listens intently while a prisoner delegation runs through a list of demands. These include
