In 1998, when we saw that the universe was accelerating, it's a chain of measurements. The thing that hadn't been done before was looking at distant supernovey and they were fainter then you would have expected if the universe wasn't accelerating. So is there a way I can understand that they are brighter than they really are, that they just look brighter? And so far, the Hubble tension seems to be passing that test.
