The book explores child homicide in hunter-gatherer societies before they move into more modern day societies like 19th century England and the whole process of getting an infanticide act etc. it will occur in the context of reproductive conflict well when they are exploring child homicide they have two chapters that go through ethnographic records from hunter-gathere societies. It was explicitly listed that they should be punished less severely than other homicide offenders according to a lot of activism or sympathetic understanding of what is a young woman to do without any resources  and finds herself pregnant.
