The three legged stool of chinese growth, one of which was real estate, is now coming to a shuddering end. What happens when you offer very, very high rates of interest in the good times? They are predicated on you continuing to make money in real estate loans. Those real estate loans go sour. You can't cover the interest. Then what you say to the people depositors: well, we said we'd give you 19 % or 10%. We're only going to give you four and six per cent in two years right? That makes people panic. Once people go to the bank and they can't get all their money at once, they suddenly tell their mates
