When you see yourself or someone you love in a dysregulated state, instead of telling them to get it together, calm down, get out there, get over it, you can say to yourself, wow, this is dysregulation. For example, if my son who's on the autism spectrum comes home from school and drops his book bag on the floor and walks past me without saying hello, lays on the couch and puts a cover over his whole body over his head.
