Is It Time to Switch to Plasticity First Evolution?

The conventional way of thinking about evolution is usually that some mutation shows up in a population, provides the opportunity for selection and populations adversing thereafter. The plasticity first hypothesis is a little bit different. You get a plastic response to an environmental change, and then several things happen down stream for populations to evolve. And so it's that interaction between the pool of genetic variation with the environmental change that is starting the bout of evolution.
