Is There a Space for an Architectural Education?
I think an architect's skills are wasted on just making building. I've always said that some of the architectural background can go into a bar and have a fun conversation with a film director or an engineer, scientist or technologist. That's both a blessing and a curse. There's a horrific tradition of architects as philosophers and architects thinking they understand the world to the point where they can impose their vision of the future on top of everyone. What happens today is really the tragedy of modernism. At the same time, it means we can collaborate and we know how to listen... We can start to engage much more expansive projects"
