Cromwell and the Instrument of Government

Cromwell opened the first session with an address calling for political healing. But a cliqk of veteran m ps, led by sir arthur hazelrig, got started on a project to completely undermine the instrument of government. The executive council would not serve in perpetuity, but be renewed with each parliament. They also didn't have a share in any military authority. Cromwell then presented them with a declaration sum up these principles that everyone had to sign.
