In some basic way, it was, it was such an uncompromising vision. The supernatural elements of the pagan religion are very much alive and operative in the movie. Some of the slavic slaves that the vikings have are christian believers. I think that's a very subversive choice. All that is real cotancout in the inthe universe of the movie.
