The Evolution of the Female Core Statue
A later Ku-ros is the statue of Croissus, dated to around 530 BC and found at the National Archaeological Museum of Athens. It represents a man who died in battle, not to be confused with the Lydian king Croissus. For some unknown reason, the core statues did not appear until a generation or so after the Ku-ros first appeared. Though her face is more proportionate, she displays the same archaic smile which is accentuated with rounder cheeks. Like all core eye, this young woman is shown closed, reflecting the Greek custom of women not being nude in public.
