When I was chancellor at the University of California, Berkeley, I convened a group of faculty and we thought really hard about how to find better ways to teach computer science writ large. And what we came up with was a new data science set of courses that if anything broadened significantly the kind of educational training that we gave in the basic computer science degree. It did it in a way that was less technical than a computer science degree but more connected to other things that students might study.
